On Wednesday May 30th Apple finally released its iOS 11.4 which includes updates to the Messages in iCloud and AirPlay 2 multi-room audio feautres.
The most noteworthy feature in this update is the Messages in iCloud feature, which lets users store all photos, messages and other attachments, in Apple’s cloud. Apple first talked about this feature at Worldwide Developer’s Conference last year, and now it’s finally here.
With Messages in iCloud enabled “all your messages appear when you sign into a new device with the same account,” Apple noted in its release. If you want to delete your old conversations all you have to do is remove them on one device and they will disappear from all your devices.
To enable this feature, update the iOS, then head over to Settings > [user name] > iCloud.
Another cool feature is the AirPlay 2 multi-room audio. It lets users seamlessly stream music on multiple AirPlay 2-enabled speakers at the same time as well as move music from one room to another. You can do that on your device from the Control Center, Lock screen, or via AirPlay controls within apps.
According to the news release users can also “ask Siri to play music in any room, a group of rooms, or everywhere in the home” which makes it even easier to use.
As always the update also fixes a number of problems, including the issue that caused text messages to appear out of order
